Filmed on location in Lille,  Le Cafè des Rêves features a group of teenagers from different backgrounds in a suspense -filled, five-part drama. Against all the odds and on their own initiative, they raise sufficient funds through a rap concert to transform a run-down cafè into a popular teenage venue. Punchy, exciting and entertaining, these programs cannot fail to inspire your students.

Program Titles & Descriptions:

1.  Episode 1     (19:36)
This program presents fourteen main and secondary characters, all the main and subplots and some of the main locations.  Subplots introduced in this program include Antoine's departure, plans for the the new management of the café and for its refurbishment, Marco's interest in rap and making music, the tensions between Isobelle and her mother, the mystery surrounding Wayne, and Karim's financial problems. Locations included are the café, the airport, a street near where Karim and Djamal live, Isabell's house and the pedestrian precinct.  The program ends with a "cliffhanger"... an attack of the grandmother by an unknown assailant.

2.  Episdode 2    (19:52)
In this program, three new speaking characters appear - the doctor, the young policeman and Françoise, the racist student.  We continue to meet main and subsidiary characters from the first episode.  New locations introduced in this episode include the hospital, the school and school canteen, and the DIY store.  This episode includes conversations about refurbishing the café using a number of color adjectives, discussion about staffing the café brings in school subjects and times, the sale of concert tickets involves high numbers and money, and features the newspaper article about the mugging.

3.  Episode 3    (19:38)
In this episode, the only new character is the police inspector who appears briefly in the last scene, so pupils can further their acquaintance with characters who should already be familiar.  This episode further establishes the characters of Jeannot and Dédé as old friends of Madame Lambin and the familiy, and old and regular clients of the café.   We learn more about another character, Wayne, with some information about his life in England.

4.  Episode 4    (19:49)
Two new characters appear in this episode, Alain and Jean-Pierre, the perpetrators of the fight at the café.  Although the incident is brief, they reappear or are referred to later in the program.  The boy at the window  of the children's home makes a fleeting but striking appearance.  The police inspector reappears twice and has a key role in the action of this episode.  It is important to realize how he comes to know Karim.

5.  Episode 5    (20:17)
No new characters appear in this episode.
