10 Twenty-Minute Programs

Filmed in Toulouse, Quebec and Senegal, this action-packed magazine series brings the color and variety of the wider French-speaking world into the classroom. These lively programs have something to offer students as a variety of levels, and one aim is to encourage them to travel and use their French. Sport and fitness, the media, music and dance, food and diet, family life, clothes and personal image, and environmental issues are some of the themes presented.

Program Descriptions:

1.  Trois Continents   (18:56)
This program will familiarize students with different locations around the globe where French is spoken. It introduces a pattern whereby the same question will be asked in various ways.

2.  Le Look   (18:35)
This program introduces useful clothes vocabulary-words for garments, colors and other adjectives and expressions. Cross cultural attitudes about expression through clothing are discussed.

3.  Le Sport   (19:07)
This program contains a number of interviews with sports people - both professional and casual participants. The references are many and varied, and listeners should be able to form some opinion as to what are national sports and which are universally practiced.

4.  Temps Libre   (18:46)
This program contains not only references to many free-time activities but also discussions on free time, contemporary music, and pocket money.

5.  L'environnment local   (19:11)
The local environment is looked at in a variety of ways. Young people from the three different continents are asked what they are doing for the environment.

6.  Le Travail   (19:05)
This program offers a wide and useful selection of job vocabulary as well as several interviews with people doing jobs that are far from run of the mill.

7.  Les Medias   (19:10)
Television is one of the main themes of this program as well as functioning as a review of useful vocabulary terms from the media.

8.  Je t'aime   (19:10)
Polygamy, le coup de foudre, young love and marriage, horoscopes, and physical love are among the themes dealt with in this program.

9.  La Bonne Asiette (19:11)
Food in all its different guises is the theme of this program, the topics covered ranging from the philosophy of Ramadan to the production of maple syrup.

10. L'environnement Global (19:18)
This program is designed to encourage pupils to think about the different problems facing our environment as well as providing a useful review of environmental language.
